Lesson 22: Time
“Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 90:12
Have you ever said, “I just don’t have the time!” We usually say this, not concerning the mundane things that don’t matter, but the things that do. In the time crunched culture we live in we are tempted to have time only for busyness while lurking just below the surface we know it’s the “tyranny of the urgent” making unreasonable demands once again… and we are giving in, again. But, is this unnavoidable? Do we have a choice?
“People nowdays take time far more seriously than eternity.” – Thomas Kelly
As you fast and pray during this 40 days, ask the Lord to help you focus on the things that matter. Determine to capture moments to listen to a friend and really look someone in their eyes while doing so. Ask yourself, “How would life be different if I made time to encourage and bless, to read and to rest, to live, to laugh, to love, to hug, to hold, to help, to worship, to witness? What in my routine could I cut out in order to make room for what God is wanting to put in? Who can I ask to partner with me in making these life changes?” No, this won’t happen overnight, but it will happen in time. Moment by moment, surrender your time to God and I believe the Holy Spirit will give you what you need to make the changes you long for and you will have the time for more things timeless!
“Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise, but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” Ephesians 5:15-16
