Lesson 11: Things that are true.
In Philippians 4:8 we find a great list of things to focus on during this 40 days of prayer and fasting. We begin with the things that are true. As Pilate asked Jesus during His trial, “What is truth?” John 18:38. Perhaps we could think of it this way.
How does a bank teller recognize true, authentic currency from counterfeit? Sure, there are high-tech ways of doing this today, but historically it has been through the handling, seeing and with all the senses becoming so familiar with real bills, that they just know when something isn’t right. This is how it is for us as followers of Jesus Christ when we daily handle God’s Word. We gain a Spirit-led sense of discernment that sets us apart and makes us aware of the subtle deceptions found in the relativism and pluralism of this world. Jesus said, “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” John 17:17.
What’s been on your mind, lately? If it is filled with hurry and worry or confused with the complexities of this life, then ask yourself… “Am I spending enough quantity time in God’s Word? How could I purpose more time to read, memorize and meditate on the Truth found in it’s pages? Who could I partner with to hold me accountable for going to the next level in my devotional life?”
During this 40 days, focus heart and mind as never before on the Truth that is found in God’s Word.
