Servant Leader,

Lesson 7: Goodness

“For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge…” 2 Peter 1:5

Most Christians dream about doing something big like starting another “Samaritan’s Purse” or “Tom’s Shoes” kind of ministry. To influence culture and meet needs like this is the stuff of dreams. And, why not? Dream big. Work hard. Go for it! However, don’t “miss the forest for the trees” along the way.

As you fast and pray during this season, ask the Lord to use you to touch some lives and meet some needs in simple, daily ways. Who can you encourage, say a prayer for or even with? Maybe there is a small need that you can meet for a single parent? I don’t know what the Lord may lead you to do, but do something good and don’t care if you get any credit. The Apostle Paul reminds us, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared for us in advance to do.” Ephesians 2:10.

Focus on loving in small ways and see what God can do. Do something good for someone today and know you have faithfully served the Lord.
