Lesson 5 – Patience. I don’t know about you, but often what I need most I have least.
“Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You, too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.” James 5:7
God’s people in the first century Church believed the Lord’s return was fast approaching, even in their lifetime. While this wasn’t the most accurate interpretation of God’s promises concerning His second coming, it kept them in the right frame of mind for serving the Lord. The same should apply for God’s people in the 21st century. Jesus is coming soon, and not just in the context of His second coming. He is coming soon with His answer, with His provision, with exactly what you need when you need it. In the meantime, remember, it is far more important what God is doing in you than what is happening to you.
During this 40 days of prayer and fasting let me encourage you with the words of James to “…be patient and stand firm.” If you do, the Lord’s promise will be fulfilled just as surely as the spring rains are going to fall and will bring about a new and abundant harvest again this year.
