Servant Leader,

Today we begin 40 simple lessons designed to help you focus on your walk with Christ. Lesson 1 – The Word.

In the middle of Jesus’ ministry we hear this exchange, “Someone told him, ‘You mother and brothers are standing outside wanting to see you.’ He replied, ‘My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.'” Luke 8:20-21

It has been said that, “Practice makes perfect.” Others contend that, “Perfect practice makes perfect.” I guess it depends on your definition of perfection. Perfection in the Biblical sense has more to do with things like maturity in character and relationships, not in performance. So, if growing in spirit, attitude and community is your goal, then there is no more perfect practice than daily time in God’s Word, with a purposed focus on living the truths discovered.

AW Tozer reminds us, “The Word of God well understood and religiously obeyed is the shortest route to spiritual perfection. And we must not select a few favorite passages to the exclusion of others. Nothing less than a whole Bible can make a whole Christian.”

How is your daily time in God’s Word going? What do you need to do to make this a priority? Ask God to give you the grace to make His Word a daily, perfecting practice.
