“Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.” Ephesians 4:1
Whether you serve as a full-time or bi-vocational pastor, part-time ministry staff (who probably puts in full-time hours!), or are a volunteer, serving Christ is a calling. You serve, not always out of passion for the calling, but out of love for the Caller. Reflecting on the famous quest chronicled in “The Lord of the Rings,” John Ortberg shares some great insights concerning a calling to ministry at http://www.christianitytoday.com/le/currenttrendscolumns/leadershipweekly/guardcallingfrodo.html?start=1
Check it out and spend a little a time considering your calling. How has your sense of calling changed since you first began to hear it? What have you done to guard and grow in that calling? Who is walking with you as you do so? How is your relationship with the Caller?
A calling is a curious thing to say the least. Maybe you feel the same way I do? It will remain a mystery to me how God’s love and grace can look beyond faults, failures and sins and use someone like me to play some small role in His greater plan.
