“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:19
I love this passage! What a powerful statement of promise, provision and potential from the Lord. I send it out to you today for no other reason than to stir up in you a sense of hope, of worth and anticipation of better days ahead. Be sure of this, God isn’t through with you just yet. You have been called. You have been equipped. The Lord has set you apart to accomplish His will in His way and in His time. Along the way He will do so in such a way as to maximize your good and His glory. Take heart, there is a new day dawning for you! I offer this to you with but one word of instruction… make sure you value the “God Thing” that you will be leaving behind as you press ahead. Whether you can’t move on fast enough or you are “riding the brake,” take some time to make sure there aren’t some very valuable things you should be taking with you. Case in point is a story out of Tel Aviv today. See http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,525684,00.html
It seems a dutiful daughter wanted to bless her mother and surprise her with a new mattress. So, she bought the new mattress and threw out the old. Why not? Needless to say her mother’s expression must not have been anything like she imagined when she discovered that her old mattress was gone. You see, her mother’s life savings was tucked safely inside… in excess of $1,000,ooo.00!! Somehow, “OOPS!” doesn’t quite say it. Now, the daughter, mother, friends and city workers are scouring local dumps trying to find the mattress. This, of course, is complicated by the fact that more than 2,500 tons of garbage arrives at just one of the local dump sites on a daily basis. So far the search has been unsuccesful and the family worries now about those who will likely try to join the hunt and claim, “finders keepers!”
The lesson is a simple “Do and Don’t” proposition. First, DO seek the “new thing” God has in store. Do step up and step out in faith. Don’t give in to fears or foes from without or within! Our God is the God of the “New Thing!” However, DON’T do so without seeking to discover all the treasure that may be hidden within what you are leaving behind. No, it probably won’t be a million dollars. Still, it just might be intangible treasures, pearls of wisdom and golden nuggets of insight that will only serve to make the journey into the next great adventure more discerned.
Again, be encouraged today. You matter more than you know. God wants to do a “new thing” in you and through you. Old “ruts” will be replaced with new highways and “broken records” with new songs! Don’t give up. Don’t give in. Keep the faith. You have not been forgotten. God will be true to His Word and you will know His favor and blessing again… enough to share with others and give God increasing praise, honor and glory.
Out with the old! (Carefully)
